Privacy
Privacy policy
Plain language, and accurate as of 2026-09-28. This site has no accounts, no logins and no payments, so there is less to explain than most policies suggest.
01In short
The short version
- No accounts, no sign-in, no payments, no newsletter on this site.
- This site sets no cookies of its own.
- Page views are counted with a small cookieless counter that sends the page URL, the domain and the referring page.
- Starting the browser build sends one anonymous event: a random ID and whether the game loaded or failed.
- Google Analytics is optional and loads only with your consent. Advertising is not activated on this site, so no ad script is loaded at all.
02On your device
What is stored in your browser
One value: your cookie choice, kept in localStorage under the key icsyfh.consent.v1, so the banner does not ask again on every page. It contains two booleans (analytics, advertising) and a timestamp. Nothing else is written, and nothing is sent anywhere when you set it.
To remove it, open Cookie settings in the footer of any page and choose Withdraw consent, or clear site data in your browser. Either way the scripts stop running.
03Page counts
The page counter
Every page here loads a small counter from click.pageview.click. It is a Plausible-compatible script with no cookies and no cross-site identifier. On each page it sends a single POST containing the event name (pageview), the page URL, the site domain and the referring URL.
It is used to see which pages are read. The script also honours an opt-out flag: if you set localStorage.plausible_ignore = "true" in your browser console for this site, it stops sending.
04Game-load events
What happens when you start the game
When the hosted browser build starts, or fails to start, the page sends one event to /api/events on this same domain. The payload is deliberately minimal:
- What is sent
- A random identifier generated in your browser, and one of two outcomes:
game_readyorgame_error - What is not sent
- No IP address, no email, no name, no account, no cookie, no advertising identifier
- Why
- To count how often the game loads successfully, so we notice when a browser or platform breaks it
- Retention
- Raw event identifiers are kept for 30 days; after that only daily totals remain
- Who sees it
- The site host, as aggregate counts in a daily report
The identifier is random and is not linked to any other visit, so these events cannot be used to build a profile of you. Turning analytics off does not stop these counts, because they are operational rather than analytical; if you would rather not send them, use the desktop build instead.
05Optional
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is configured for this site (measurement ID G-EE89PSZ84Q). It loads only if you consent to analytics in the cookie banner or in the cookie settings dialog. If you decline, the Google tag is never fetched.
When it runs, Google Analytics 4 sets cookies and reports page views, approximate location derived from your connection, device and browser type to Google. Google’s own privacy policy governs that processing.
Three custom events are sent, and only from a page where you allowed analytics: game_launch when you click through to the hosted game, guide_view when a guide page loads, and share when you use a share control, together with the page name and language. There are no purchase, signup or account events because this site has none of those.
06Optional
Advertising
Advertising is not activated on this site. No AdSense script is loaded, no ad is requested and no ad slot exists. The publisher meta tag (ca-pub-6762879731814955) is present on every page for site verification only.
If advertising is ever switched on, it will require your consent and a certified consent-management setup first, and this page will say so before it happens. You can already see the control that would be used: the cookie settings dialog shows advertising as inactive rather than pretending it is a live choice.
No advertising or analytics scripts run inside the game, and that will not change. The game is served as its own page without ad slots.
07Your control
Changing or withdrawing consent
-
Accept all
Analytics may load. Advertising is not activated on this site, so nothing else changes.
-
Essential only
Neither Google Analytics nor AdSense loads. The page counter described above still runs.
-
Cookie settings
Choose each category separately from the footer of any page. Withdrawing consent clears the stored choice and reloads the page so the scripts stop.
Because this site collects no personal data of its own and has no account system, there is no profile to export or delete. Requests about the Google services themselves go to Google.
08Audience
Children and content
The game carries warnings for body horror, violence, cannibalism, references to murder, strong language and sexual themes. This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
09Elsewhere
Other sites
Links to itch.io, Google services and other third parties take you to sites with their own privacy policies. Once you leave this domain, this policy no longer describes what happens to your data.

Questions and changes
Privacy questions: contact@icansmellyoufromhere.com. We answer what we can and we do not pass requests on to the game’s creator, who does not run this site.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. 2026-09-28 is the current version.
